1 What Is a Nasal Sound?
Learn

The child understands what nasalisation is before learning ਬਿੰਦੀ and ਟਿੱਪੀ.

5 Nasal Sound in Words
Learn

The child reads nasalised words accurately and understands that nasalisation can affect meaning and spelling.

Explanation

Adding a nasal sign changes the sound of a written form. Compare:

  • ਮਾ / ਮਾਂ
  • ਮੈ / ਮੈਂ
  • ਗੇਦ / ਗੇਂਦ
  • ਅਬ / ਅੰਬ

Not every non-nasal form is a complete Punjabi word. The comparison helps the child hear what the sign changes. Important idea A missing nasal sign can:

  • Change the pronunciation
  • Change the spelling
  • Create a different word
  • Create a form that is not a word
