The Sakhi

On 11 November 1675, Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji was executed in Delhi. Sikh historical memory places the beheading at Chandni Chowk, where Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib now commemorates the martyrdom. The Mughal state’s responsibility for the execution is historically established, while scholars continue to debate how to reconstruct every motive and preceding detail. Sikh tradition remembers the Guru’s death above all as a defence of conscience and resistance to coerced conversion. For children and families, the lesson is practical: never use power to force belief, and do not surrender another person’s right to conscience for your own safety.
